This was to be expected, but this is a heads up.

There is some crap going on around, which is a script for android phones, and this person is spreading it as supposedly a "JoS App". It's not even a legit app or anything like that, but a script/advertisement virus thing. This message never got through, but this is to inform people, as they may try to mail it to you. It's not even a pirated app of the original, it's basically a script to destroy your phone, or spy on you or something.

The only official places to find these apps are here:

http://www.josmarket.org/android-apps

If you get these from anywhere else, you are on your own, and anyone could have opened the app and injected any code in it.

When these apps are installed, it requires NO PERMISSIONS! It asks nothing of your phone, let alone information, or whatever else.

Do not download or share apps, but from the mirror above, so you can be 100% sure what you are doing.

I would say this is a compliment, in the world of file sharing if there's ever something valuable and sought after it usually gets it's own malware. To deter such values from being spread.

Keep an eye on the file size of the APK's that is usually the biggest dead giveaway if something has malware.

joscommunications1-1.apk is 3.0 MB
RTRVET-Normal.apk is 30.2 MB

But as HC stated, the safest method is just to download from a Trusted source such as the Jos Market, you should never download anywhere else.

You'd be better to share the exact size in Bytes.
3.0 MB =
3145728 B but
3145727 B and
3145729 B also = 3.0 MB (rather ≈ 3.0 MB); you should be cautious about any difference.
If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes...

Things like this will happen, and imho only keep getting worse. Everyone must be vigilante.

The app was 4.0 KB and was uploaded in a random site with a free download feature. Had no icon or anything like that. At 4 KB one can assume it was some malicious code or something. But it ended in APK. One member with a name 6____6_____6lover or something like that, attempted to post it. It was a yahoo mail.

I did not hold the name in memory as they were quickly had their message deleted.

Adding restrictions to phone helps doesn't like preventing apk files from running?

Yes, and you should. Sometimes these block good or bad apps, so it depends. Many apps from the appstore, and many pre-installed apps do spy on you 24/7. They aren't even seen as an issue as this is the 'normal'. This is why its advisable that you root your phone to be safe.
